  • How To Minimise Tattoo Pain

Before even thinking of a tattoo you must ensure that legal provisions of your state or country, if any, regarding age restrictions of being tattooed, with or without parents permissions have to be strictly complied with.

Next please permit me to advise that if you are pregnant or you are suffering from diabetes, heart trouble, aids, cancer, any communicable disease, allergy especially skin related allergy you must consult your doctor before going to a tattooist. Drinking alcohol or consuming drugs must be avoided.

Take care that the needle tips needed for the creation of the tattoo are chosen from a hygenic and sterilised lot and make sure that your tattooist adheres to the health code and keeps all the area clean. Most of the items, like needles and ink caps, must be fresh and for one time-use-only and sterile wrapped to help reduce the chances of infections and diseases spreading.

Taking a machine that uses a needle to lay the ink deep into the skin makes a tattoo, so this means a lot of tiny puncture wounds are being made. These needles puncture the skin at a very fast rate and at a variable depth. The outline is usually the most painful work, because the needles are being used to create a nice solid black line that will define the tattoo, and so it is inserted deeply and carefully to ensure complete and effective coverage. The shading is usually not as painful, but this also depends upon the depth of penetration and the desired effect. There will be some bleeding. Under normal circumstances this will not be great and is/may be manageable.

Before thinking of a tattoo you should think of the pain during and after tattooing. Though the amount of pain can’t be anticipated yet you should know that area of tattoo with a lot of muscles and fatty tissue between the skin and the bone will be less painful than a place where the skin and bone are very close to each other.

Generally this pain is a slight burning or hot scratching sensation. The amount and type of pain largely depends on an individual's body chemistry and tolerance to accept the pain.

During/after tattooing session you shall have to deal with your pain yourself. A strong will power will tremendously help you fight this pain. Screaming and going crazy or acting wild will only make the tattoo more painful. Be cool, confident and calm, stay positive and breathe slowly throughout the experience and try to focus on something other than the pain of the tattoo. A strong feeling of having a dream tattoo, listening to your favourite music, talking with your loved ones, reading your favourite books/magazines will divert your attention to something other than pain. Remind yourself that millions of tattoo lovers have withstand this pain then why not you. Also think that anything that comes easy in life is worth nothing and this pain just means that you have earned something significant in life and it is going to be your pride possession which you will be holding on till your last breadth.

If pain becomes intolerable take a short break or come back in a few days. It is not necessary to complete the tattoo in one sitting. Break up your session if needed.
